Los Altos : A Town with a Legacy

Once a brief train stop between San Francisco and the Coast, Los Altos is now a magnet for people seeking great schools, a warm community and a prestigious location to call home. The charming village is often the site of holiday celebrations and seasonal events. The History Museum offers regular exhibits to showcase the rich history of the apricot groves and railroad barons that once dominated this little town. With a population of approximately 30,000 people, Los Altos remains a tight knit community that preserves it’s rich heritage with many landmarks and historical homes.

Why choose the Los Altos Real Estate Market?

  • Property values: Though there are occasional adjustments to the market activity and prices soften at times, Los Altos Real Estate offers a solid investment over time.

  • Exceptional Schools: All of the elementary and middle schools have received statewide recognition, and the high schools rank in the top 2% nationally (U.S.News & World Report).

  • Outdoor Activities: Well-maintained parks, baseball and soccer fields are strategically located throughout the town to provide local outdoor facilities to each neighborhood.

  • Diverse Educational Options: The local Recreation Department has a broad range of offerings for all ages from youth AYSO to Senior walks and yoga classes. There are classes in Mandarin, Spanish and bonsai gardening.

  • Accessibility: Los Altos once had a Train Depot along the route where we now have Foothill Expressway. This thoroughfare offers easy access to freeways, hospitals and major roads that link to the neighboring towns. To the north is Central Expressway, and the Cal Train stop that connects San Francisco to San Jose.

What’s Important When Purchasing Los Altos Real Estate?

  • Though all of Los Altos is desirable, there area distinctions that creates some irregularity in pricing. The southern section of the town is served by the Cupertino School District through middle school and the Fremont High School District. The ‘Country Club’ area is still unincorporated and under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff’s office.

  • Zoning Laws: As with many of the smaller towns in California, there is controversy over the new mandates for these towns to meet their Required Number of Housing Units (RNHA). To meet these numbers, Los Altos must utilize every bit of land to the maximum. Therefore, we are destined to build denser housing.

  • Property Condition: A minor remodel may call for replacement of all plumbing fixtures and utility companies have their own schedules. Be wary of any assumptions that it is easy to just redo a house.

  • Amenities: Proximity to schools and ‘walkability’ is often key to the desirability of a home. The draw of Los Altos real estate is that there are convenience stores, coffee houses and nice parks throughout the town. It is also very close to El Camino Hospital and Stanford Medical Center.

  • Consult a Los Altos Realtor for current information on what is happening with all of the above.

Los Altos is a great town to grow up in (ask Jack) and raise a family or enjoy one’s later years (ask Denise)! We love our town and welcome you all to our home.

Eat. Drink. Play.
